More belated updates

Finally more updates, all of the below work had been done by the end of August, but I've been flat out so have neglected the blog a bit!!!!

I fitted the ignition under the dash in an alloy box I got from maplins, I wanted the ignition somewhere more secure than in the fibreglass dash and it also helps the dash look neater.

The centre tunnel requires a slot cutting in to allow the electric reverse gear to miss, once I did this I covered the slot with an off cut from my cycle wings and fiber glassed over it. (Still req smoothing and painting)

I fitted the speed sensor, I used the reverse gear to mount the magnets drilling a dimple first before gluing them on. I decided on this location because there will be no movement between sensor and magnets, also the centrifugal force will pull the magnets against the dimple as opposed to out of it.

I fitted a boot lid in the rear panel using a sheet of ally to strengthen the main area and then covering this with the carbon effect panel supplied with the kit. I then used the carbon effect as the lift out panel, this also allowed me to fit the fuel cap on this panel using the ally sheet as a stronger mounting than the glass fibre body tub. ( I also prefer the look of it here)

I've also fitted the seats and side repeaters, these I fitted on the rear arches using the correct measurements from the iva manual....they must be a minimum height of 350mm and be within 2600mm from the front of the vehicle ( I have just managed to achieve this with a few mm to spare) the angles of visibility also have to be correct...horizontal between 5 and 60 degrees. vertical if fitted less than 750mm high 15 degrees above and 5 degrees below horizontal.

Newark show

Had my car on the Mnr stand at Newark kit car show....the plan was to work on it at the show, got a couple of bits done.. Fitted wheels, rear arches and dash switches.

On the subject of shows I attended stonleigh and Newark and whilst looking at other lotus seven inspired kits, it strengthened my passion for the Mnr ( I certainly made the right choice) even the big boys Westfield don't come close!!! ( in my opinion) ;)

More progress

Fitted oil pressure sensor...used remote kit that came with the digidash and used p clip supplied fixed to ally bracket holding sensor (bracket came off a set of renthal handlebars I had lying around ..perfect size with a bit of rubber inserted) also fitted mesh to the nose cone using glass fibre kit, fitted headlights and gave the engine a fresh luck of paint. :)

Been busy building and not updating so here goes....

Fitted oil cooler to the underneath of the rad using two u shaped ally brackets and rivets

Also fitted rear drive train I used stainless steel spacers on rear uprights and diff mounting ( instead of washers as per Mnr)

Also fitted 12v socket and battery cut off under dash and fitted steering column and paddle shift assy, I used 2 Shamford ally spacers where the outer of the gear change cable mounts in the engine bay, to give it a straight run to the selector on the engine( the position of the bracket means the cable has to bend at quite an angle to reach the selector)

A little more progress

I have now cut out the tunnel cover to fit. Not fixed in place yet. Also fitted fuel pump/filter and pressure regulator.

And I've finally got a 3.14 diff and drive shafts so have been busy cleaning these ready for paint.

Also fitted radiator.

Finally some updates

I have now fitted the front suspension and callipers and discs, ( the bottom rear wishbone hole could of been better, I cut the hole in line with mounting bracket on chassis but the wishbone angles forward from bracket so the hole is slightly too far back!!! )

The nose cone is fitted, I used 4 x rivnuts to fix it to the chassis rails, the dash/ scuttle is also fitted using 2 x rivnuts.

Weekends progress

This weekend has been pretty productive,
I've fitted the battery tray in the passenger footwell (ready for odyssey red 30 battery)
The fuel tank is fitted, inner side panels and body tub.
The cut outs for wishbones and brake pipes are done, also for the exhaust....looks neat and tidy but I'm hoping its not too close to get heat damage!!!!. (I spent ages making templates to keep cut out to a minimum)
